The living history actor who provided our tour was very knowledgeable and never broke from his role. He was amazing, you felt as though you were taken back to the war and his story left you with goosebumps and a very good sense of how it was for the soldiers just after the war.
NOTE: might want to double check, if you're going in the summer......we were there on July 15. Young man in McClean House told us that on the day before, buildings were open, but the heat index caused them to not have any guides, etc. (Too hot to be in costume)
Great place to learn about the civil war ending. A beautiful place and scenery. Love visiting here and will be back again.
The grounds are very well kept and the museum was terrific. Worth seeing and worth visiting again.
Reasons for 4, not 5...gnats were
A great place to see where our nation went from being divided to unified. While my wife and I only spent about an hour there hitting the major historical locations, you could easily spend half a day. Worth the trip, especially if you're in the area.
Awesome place to stay. Good price, very friendly, clean, nice rooms and bathrooms, very nice pool. The little "restraunt" sold yummy appetizer type foods and beer and wine. Beautiful area.
Very interesting. Grounds well maintained. Buildings very nice. People were friendly. Informational video was excellent! Not crowded
ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS! !! The park guide monolog was interesting, but twice as long as necessary (he was "the steward"/dentist)
