This was a really fascinating place. It was full of history and real uniforms from the war. I felt almost as if I was really there looking at General Lee. I'm from New York and all my education about the civil war was naturally bias towards the North. Visiting this museum in the South gave me a whole new perspective on the war and the whole concept of slavery. Everyone accepts the same facts, there's no debate on who won the war, nothing like that, but the views on the war from a southern point of view were definitely educational. I really enjoyed my visit and I'd recommend it to anyone nearby.
Four stars if it was busy; it would be hard to see exhibit. Main exhibit doesn't have a lot of space. Lots of uniforms, weapons, documents including letters. Several video screens present sentiments of various people. There was an informative lady at a table between gift shop & exhibit talking about nurses & field hospitals, with props. The museum's focus is on the Confederacy. It was until recently named The Museum of the Confederacy, that name is still on building.
With all the AMERICAN history that is offered, out was most interesting. It's a shame that there are so many that want to destroy the past hiding it from future generations. The people defacing statues and early American icons should consider leaving our great country and see how it is elsewhere.
